In May 1998 the Australian Chapter Executive were made aware of plans being made by members of the IFMR, GB&I Chapter, to ride in Australia in the year 2000.

The Australian operator who was to run the tour closed his business down.

As a result, two IFMR members decided to look at how the IFMR could best ensure that the GB&I Rotacyclists, and Rotacylists from other countries, could safely ride under the Australian IFMR banner without putting the IFMR at risk.

At the 1998 IFMR AGM held on Saturday 12th September at Bungaree Station, Clare Valley, S.A., the above mentioned IFMR members put a proposal to those present that they register, and own, a company called Motorcycle Roadtours Australia (MRA).

After lengthy discussions and explanations, detailing risks and responsibilities, the proposal was welcomed and accepted.

MRA was set up as a private company providing services to IFMR. It was not part of the IFMR.

Three tours endorsed by the IFMR Executive and operated specifically for IFMR members were:– The Oz 2000 Ride, Peru 2002 and The Robin Smith Memorial Ride.

MRA conducted a number of rides under its own name, both in Australia and overseas!
